Caspar David Friedrich Suite
Caspar David Friedrich, one of the most significant painters of Romanticism, had a special connection to the surroundings of Zittau. In the summer of 1810, he undertook a hike through the Zittau Mountains with his artist friend Georg Friedrich Kersting. On 4 July 1810, they climbed Mount Oybin, where the ruins of a medieval monastery and a castle are located on the summit plateau. These ruins left a lasting impression on Friedrich and served as inspiration for several works, including the watercolour "Monastery Ruins on the Oybin".

A Tribute in Night Blue
A suite inspired by the view of Caspar David Friedrich and his love for the Zittau mountains
In light of these historical connections, Room 238 – The Caspar David Friedrich Suite is a tribute to the artist and his time in the Upper Lusatia. The suite is decorated in deep shades of midnight blue, inspired by Friedrich's preference for moody, often dark colour palettes. The furnishings have been carefully selected to create the romantic atmosphere that was so characteristic of Friedrich.
A special highlight of the suite is the freestanding bathtub, which offers guests not only the luxury of a relaxing bath but also a stunning view of the castle park. The tranquility and beauty of the park, combined with the artistic design of the suite, create a perfect symbiosis of nature and art that wonderfully reflects the spirit of Caspar David Friedrich.
