Lisa Tetzner Suite

Lisa Tetzner (1894–1963) was born in Zittau and grew up in Upper Lusatia. From a young age, she discovered her love for storytelling and dedicated herself to the art of fairy tale narration. After her training, she travelled as a fairy tale narrator through Thuringia, Swabia, and the Rhineland. Her stories and fairy tales were well received and helped to keep the tradition of fairy tale narration alive in Germany.

Between Fantasy and Memory

A literary homage to Lisa Tetzner and the art of storytelling

In addition to her work as a storyteller, Lisa Tetzner was also a successful children's book author. Her most famous works include "The Children from Number 67" and "The Black Brothers". Her books have been translated into several languages and reached an international audience.

In 1933, due to the political situation in Germany, Lisa Tetzner, along with her husband, the writer Kurt Held, had to leave the country. They found refuge in Switzerland and subsequently lived in Carona in the canton of Ticino.

Suite 239 – The Lisa Tetzner Suite – is a tribute to the writer and her connection to the Zittau region. The walls are adorned with a large wallpaper featuring the motif "Adam and Eve" by Albrecht Dürer, reflecting the artistic and literary atmosphere of the time. The suite's decor is in warm, inviting colours, creating a cosy atmosphere that invites guests to linger and dream.

The suite offers a comfortable retreat that transports guests into the world of Lisa Tetzner and honours the rich literary tradition of Upper Lusatia.
